Zaltana is a Tribal Fusion Style Belly Dance group. Tribal because we use synchronized group improvisation. We cue to each other what movements we should do next using our belly dance combinations, and we rotate leaders and followers throughout any given dance. Like all belly dancers - we snake, shake, and isolate movements of specific body parts.  And we use belly dance props – finger cymbals (zils), scimitars, canes, fans, and veils. But we also move to a wide range of musical styles using tunes from the Middle East, Latin America, African, India, other parts of the world, and even different time periods – that’s our fusion.  All of the Zaltana members have been trained in Classical, Egyptian, and Folkloric belly dance with Aziza Sa’id – in addition to their personal dance development.  We entertain in the Palm-Springs area, and perform all over California at community events, fundraisers, and rennaissance festivals.

Robin formed Zaltana when she moved to the desert.  She was choreographer and director of Troupe Melangées for 7 years, is the developer of Cardio Tribal Style (CTS) belly dance, producer of the Cardio-Tribal Belly Dance workout videos, and choreographs the CTS combinations.  Robin loves the energy and world music grooves that are expressed through tribal fusion styling.  Her most influential belly dance teachers were Aziza Sa’id and Mesmera, and she has also been inspired philosophically by Paulette Rees-Denis of Gypsy Caravan, Kajira Djoumana, Heidi of Domba, and Amy Sigil of Unmata and has a general skills certification in ATS from Carolena Nericcio of Fat Chance Belly Dance.  She taught CTS at the Pomona Valley Hospital Center, Scripps College in Claremont, and aboard cruise ships.
